THINGS TO DO WITH KIDZ
To make an Ocean in a Bottle:
- Cooking oil (we used canola, but vegetable would work well)
- Blue food coloring
- Large clear, plastic bottle (2-liter pop bottle, shampoo bottle, mouthwash bottle etc.)
TIP: A mouthwash bottle is perfect, as it has a child-proof lid which prevents the kids from opening it when playing with it.
TEACHING KIDZ ABOUT DIVERSITY
To learn and grow, we must visit how microaggressions can affect others. What is a microaggression? It has been defined as brief and common daily verbal, behavioral, and environmental communications, whether intentional or unintentional, that transmit hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to a target person because they belong to a stigmatized group. Check out this episode of What would you do? Using actors, they share examples of microaggression and conversation after each instance. Very informative! https://youtu.be/Ku7tHvwc2Pg
